July PREVIEWS Pre-Order Picks: AMIGO COMICS

EDITOR’S NOTE:  Last month we started a new feature, looking through the monthly PREVIEWS catalog and highlighting some books we feel are worthy of your attention.  It became a massive task, as there were a large number of books from various publishers that needed to be singled out.  But not an exhausting task.  We feel invigorated and excited about the diversity and creativity currently prevalent in today’s comics.  We also feel that by identifying specific books - - our readers obtained additional insight into the types that appeal to us, and are better able to judge what books would interest them.

Since we’ve already singled out our favorites last month, we are going to pare down that massive list this month and concentrate on brand new titles or series.  That should make the list more manageable.  We’re not going to list something just because it’s a #1 issue or it's a “ rebirth".  We expect the title to bring something new or different to the table, based on what we know about the concept and/or the creators.

Your local comic shop depends on your pre-orders to make sure they have the books you want when you want them. Since business reality makes it impossible for a local comic shop to order some of everything, they depend on the comics readers to tell them what they want to see.  It’s a dice roll for them every month.  Won’t you help with the odds by at least telling them what you want to buy from them in two months?  Please give it a try.  We’ll do our best here to help you with those selections, from a BC Refugees point of view.  Not objective, but absolutely subjective.

Amigo Comics are proud to announce the September 2016 launch of PLANET OF DAEMONS, a bewitching miniseries of occult adventure created by the British creative team of Kevin Gunstone and Paul Moore.

Set in the arcane realm of the Qliphoth and 17th century New England, PLANET OF DAEMONS follows the fortunes of Amos Deathridge, a former Puritan magistrate who now serves as jailer of the daemons and evil spirits who cast their sinister influence over mankind.

In a compelling first storyline, The Eye of Lucifer, Amos arrives on the world of Sathariel pursuing a daemon of war. But on his journey Amos encounters the hatching of a Succubus Queen – whose reincarnated soul shares a mysterious connection to his past. To solve the riddle of her identity, Amos must enter Sathariel’s labyrinth and confront the truth behind his arrival in the Qliphoth years earlier…

PLANET OF DAEMONS’ writer Kevin Gunstone - who’s most recent work was the award-nominated FUTURE PRIMITIVE for Markosia - commented: “Amigo have published some great books in the last few years, so when El Torres (Amigo publisher) asked me if I’d be interested in creating a series for them I couldn’t have been more excited - and this is the result!"

“The ideas associated with the Qliphoth fascinate me and this is a great opportunity to explore what it represents through the character of Amos who has suffered terribly from its effect on his world,” Gunstone explained. “Paul (Moore) has brought these weird, occult planets and characters to life brilliantly. It’s also great to work with colorist Stefan Mrkonjic again, he created a very evocative atmosphere in Future Primitive and has worked the same magic here.”

PLANET OF DAEMONS marks the first occasion Amigo have published British talent. “We amigos are immensely proud of having Kevin and Paul as part of our little team. And PLANET OF DAEMONS will be a milestone in Amigo Comics”, said El Torres.

Planet of Daemons is a spectacular four-issue miniseries of mystery, intrigue, and dark sorcery.  Written by Kevin Gunstone (FUTURE PRIMITIVE and DIS), art by Paul Moore (ZARJAZ), colored by Stefan Mrkonjic (FUTURE PRIMITIVE) and lettering by Rob Jones (MADIUS COMICS). The first issue ships in September 2016 and is solicited in the July edition of Previews.
