Disney buys Marvel

I own a share of Marvel stock, so at some point I will be asked to vote on this. Tell me how I should vote! (Not that it will affect the outcome...)

Disney to Pay $4 Billion for Comic Giant Marvel (NY Times)

Edited to add: Rich Johnston has a great list of questions raised by the sale at his site.

  1. I'll start. I've worked for a couple of companies that got bought where we were told that nothing would change and then everything did, so I'm concerned about that. On the other hand, to the best of my knowledge Pixar still operates pretty much independently so we'll see.

It's probably good for creators, especially older ones -- Disney's front page news, and the last thing they'll want is to see is Gene Colan (just to pick someone at random) making the rounds of the cable news shows looking sick and saying Marvel's not paying his medical bills. ("Disney abandons original Iron Man artist! Next on Larry King!")

And hey, maybe the unpleasantness about Howard the Duck will get cleared up. (Steve Gerber would have found this hysterical, I bet.)
